Students achieve extraordinary things when they have support.
Friends like YOU are vital to our mission!
Many of our students are overcoming huge obstacles including domestic violence, poverty and recent immigration. At Working Classroom we prepare students for life, college and careers by giving them the tools and training necessary to create change in their own lives and communities.
During Summer 2020, Working Classroom, In collaboration with the New Mexico Dream Team, South Valley Academy, Lead Artists, and Student artists worked on a mural called "Pathways For All."
Lead Artists: Manuel Hernandez, Michelle Perez
Student Artist: Saphira Montoya, Emiliano Roybal, David Valencia, Kathey Morales, Kenia Andrade, Mayahuel Aranda
We value
the strong, fresh and unique voices that youth bring to art and social justice movements. high quality, contemporary, art, collaborating with and challenging emerging artists from a place of love and respect. conscious rule breaking and the individual and collective growth that comes from taking risks, pushing boundaries and colliding with the status quo. connectivity across intersecting identities as well as collaboration with schools, community-based organizations, and arts organizations.
We prioritize
collaborations with artists, youth and communities who have been historically under served and underrepresented in power.
We know
That art has the power to heal and disrupt isolation and systems of oppression.
That training young artists from underrepresented communities contributes to a more complete and nuanced understanding of our world
We recognize
The need for safe spaces for expression, self-discovery and inquiry.
We believe
that artists labor has both cultural and financial value, to that end, we pay professional artists for their work and provide paid opportunities for student artists.
